What variety of clematis is this?

Is it a Nelly Moser? The flowers this year are huge.It is just outside our conservatory and is lovely.I must admit I don't know much about them.I think depending on when they flower you prune them differently.Any advice welcomed.

The weather here in North Wales has been lovely for weeks. It is just great to sit in the sunshine and read.I have just finished Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman.I really enjoyed it but my daughter did not.Is it a book youcan relate to more when you are older?

I am now reading The Drowning Girl by Margaret Leroy.I have read quite a few of her books and really enjoyed them but I am not so sure about this one.

For my holiday in two weeks time(we wre going to the Loire Valley in France for a week) I have got the following.
The Essex Serpent by Sarah Parry
The Whole Day Through by Patrick Gale
Whatever You Love by Louise Doughty

Have you read any of them. Please tell me if they are any good.Iwould also like other recommendatios please.

I am feeling a little sad at the moment. Two friends of mine have died this week both in their early seventies. We socialise a lot with a group of nine others. Two of the couples are moving down south to be near their children and another onein the group is starting to get confued. So it is all about to change and I don't like change.

  2. I think it is a Nellie Mosser as we used to have a couple of those in our garden and one used to flower twice in the year and the later flowering the flower was a double one. Hope yours is the same.

Sorry to hear about your friends and your sadness. The same thing is happening where we live and as I am well into my seventies it becomes difficult to make new friends I feel

    Have a wonderful holiday

    Love Chrissie xx

  3. Your Clematis reminds me of one we had many years ago when we lived in Lincolnshire it was opposite the kitchen window on a white painted wall and always looked wonderful at this time of year. I know what you mean about losing friends and relatives as you get older, I have very few relatives left now and they are older than me, friends are suffering health problems and as we are all miles away from each other we each other less and less. It is sad and I'm sorry you have lost friends recently. I hope you enjoy your holiday in France and that you enjoy reading the books you are taking:)

  5. I am so sorry about your friends, so sad isn't it? That is way too young to pass, you are in my thoughts. As for Eleanor, I thought to=he book was good, not great, just good. I am 53 so how does that factor in?

  6. I'm sorry to hear about your friends, very sad to lose two so close together too. Clematis belong to three different groups and so it depends which group it belongs to as to how and when it should be pruned. Perhaps a Google search will provide you with an answer. Enjoy your holiday, I went to the Loire Valley with school many years ago, it's such a beautiful area with an abundance of chateaux.

  7. The Clematis is beautiful. I've never seen one with that kind of detail, one color inside and then changes outside. No help to you regarding it's care, sorry. So sorry for your loss. Losing a friend is hard, but two. ((HUGS)) Double. The dynamic of your group will change so much with the loss, and then people moving away to be near their children...do they need care? The confusion and memory can be so difficult. Does most of the confusion happen she the person is tired, or later in the day? Enjoy your holiday and safe travels.
