Do you wipe everything down when you have a delivery?

I was reading a report on Wales on line about how lax things are in supermarkets now.Whole families are going, many folk not wearing masks, not socially distancing etc.The report added that these people are picking things up and putting them back while the staff are filling order trolleys.Initially we wiped everything with wipes but recently slacked on this but just made sure we washed our hands well when we had packed things away.We always wipe the paper down each day and any parcels that arrives sit aroundfor a couple of days before we open them.We thought things were bad in the first lockdown but here in North Wales cases are rising at an alarming rate. The numbers are the highest since the start. We are not going out.We are only allowed out for exercise anyway but as we have snow at the moment it is not worth risking it. Thank goodness for hobbies! Barbarax

  1. We have never wiped a thing down. Nor do we wear gloves outside unless they are winter one. Wash your hands upon returning home, use sanitizer when out.

  2. When we were in Lockdown, a while ago now, I used to leave the groceries in the spare room for a few days before using. Handwashing was the most important. Sounds worrying there. I have family in Wrexham and Oswestry.

  3. We are expecting a delivery very soon, I've just put the laundry baskets out to take it. We don't normally wipe eveything down but do wash hands really well after putting things away and I do wipe down the baskets when empty and also the table where we place the shopping:)

  4. Yes I do, I also wipe down the bags the groceries have been in and even my car keys, my purse everything I have touched while I've been out. When I see how many people are crowding into supermarkets I'm not surprised the numbers are going up.

  5. Hi! At the start we wiped or wader everything and we still spray some things if the packaging is waterproof. With anti bac spray. We leave some things for a few days but things like bread we don't. With parcels I unwrap them then wash hands as the things inside haven't been touched for a few days anyway. It is bad here in London too. Unfortunately I have to go out to work but other than that we are staying in. Glad you are.
In reply to your macrame question, the kit I did meant that I had to work on both sides. I found the right side harder as that was my wrong side but it really helped hanging it up to work on it. Give it a go!

  6. I've been shopping in the main supermarkets in Aberystwyth every one or two weeks and since they became mandatory I haven't seen a single person shopping without wearing a mask and many people are wearing them in the street too. Most shops have somebody standing at the door to check and to remind you to use the hand gel if you forget. I had to go to the bank today and the streets were almost deserted. Since the new strain I'm back to wearing safety goggles inside the shops and also gloves plus hand gel as soon as I'm back in the car. Roll on the vaccinations.

  7. US CDC is advising that it's not necessary to wipe everything down when you get it home as the virus is primarily spread through aerosols in the air, not on surfaces. They advise handwashing or sanitizer before entering the store, then handwashing as soon as you get home, and handwashing after you have put the groceries away. And of course mask up any time you are out in public near people whether indoors or out. Gloves are not necessary.

  8. Good morning! And before I forget, thanks for coming to visit me at Marmelade Gypsy!

I live in the states, and even though they are saying things are in air, not surfaces, I still am pretty rigid about washing things down. When Rick brings my groceries I handle only the things that need to be refrigerated or frozen, wiping them down. I also wash all fresh fruit and veg (not onions!) on soap and water and scrub the skins, then let them air dry. Things that are like cereal -- boxed or canned -- I usually leave for 24 hours if I can. Sometimes I'll leave them in the garage for 24-28 hours. I will then wipe them down and in some cases, remove inner bags from outer boxes to put away. And of course washing after and wiping down my counter. (In nicer weather I do all this in the garage but it's just too cold!). I also wear gloves when I do it.

I wear gloves if I have to go to the grocery (rarely) as much to protect others from my hands as to protect me from theirs.

My theory? We've come this far and it's still very bad. Why push luck when it doesn't take that long to do it, once you get your system down. I'm in it to win it.

  9. I do a click and collect from the supermarket. I load the car, wearing a face covering, sanitise with gel I have in the car and wash my hands when I get in.
