I'm a bit stuck at the moment for something to read so would appreciate some recommendations please.I don't like crime novels and I don't like long books! What have you enjoyed recently?
Lovely story set in an Indian Sari Shop. --------------------- Salaam Brick Lane .. bu .. Tarquin Hall
A year in the life of a journalist living above a shop in Brick Lane. Again, I really loved this book, so much so that we went up to London just to walk down Brick Lane.
I also get fed up with thrillers and murders so these made a nice change.
Have you read any of Kate Morton's books? "The Forgotten Garden" was her first and it was great. Her latest "The Secret Keeper" is even better so I've heard. Cheers
I recently discovered fiction by John O'Farrell. All of his books are hilarious and make me laugh out loud....especially "May contain nuts", "The best a man can get". and "The man who forgot his wife". Judy Astley is another good author
I must admit that I like crime fiction but for non crime books my favourite book is 'A Month in the Country' by J L Carr, I just love it. I see Una has mentioned Judy Astley, her books are such fun. I love the way Joanna Trollope writes she draws you straight into her family sagas and also Helsie has mentioned Kate Morton her first two books were enjoyable. I've also enjoyed books by a writer called Adele Geras:)
2 books that I really enjoyed last year were

ReplyDeleteA Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. Also Down Under by the same. I really enjoyed these books and they weren't a heavy read.

ReplyDeleteFor a read that will have you in tears of laughter try Terry Pratchett's Discworld series - amazing books and some very clever humour.
ReplyDelete'The Brightest Star in the Sky' by Marian Keyes - I've just finished it, and would love to simply go back to the beginning and read it again!
