My op was cancelled AGAIN!!!
As you know I was due to go into hospital today for knee revision surgery.I had a phone call yesterday afternoon saying that they had discovered, on looking through my notes for today ,that at my pre op in December I had a urine infection. This had been overlooked.I went down to the hospital to give another sample but they didn't know until 10am today the result. So I had to turn up at 7am this morning,go through all the rigmarole of seeing anaesthetist, getting crutches, having obs done and great big arrow on my right leg only to be told I still had an infection and my consultant would not risk operating.I am gutted. They have given me another date that is five weeks away. What a waste of NHS money!!
so sorry about the complications. Hope you get everything sorted out soon,

Nooo! Well it is better to be cautious isn't it, you don't want to become ill after the op. on top of the knee problems. So sorry to hear you had to go through all that. I hope the infection goes soon.xx
ReplyDeleteOh no, so sorry to hear about that Barbara. I know that you can't risk cross-infection and all that, but it doesn't make it any better having to wait a further five weeks. Get cracking on all those projects you stocked up. Good excuse to buy some more :)
ReplyDeleteThat is so disappointing. When you are prepared for something it's irritating when it is knocked back, but they are better safe than sorry! I am looking forward to seeing your cross stitch when it is complete. I have so many Cross-Stitch UFOs that I don't know where to start...maybe the picture I promised my friend and started for her for her 30th birthday....she will be 41 next Tuesday?!!! Cx
ReplyDeleteSo disappointing for you but I think the right decision was made. I hope they reschedule it for soon. Now, did they give you something to clear up that infection?
ReplyDeleteOh dear, how stressful for you. You can try to help things along by drinking plenty of cranberry juice which helps sterilise the bladder. But don't drink it if you are on blood thinners like Warfarin. And check with your doctor first if it is okay for you to drink it during the time before your operation.
ReplyDeleteYou must be so disappointed to be set back again - hopefully you will be much fitter in yourself though once you have had your antibiotics and recovery from the op will be easier. Sxx
ReplyDeleteThat must have been so disappointing and frustrating for you to actually get so far along with the procedure but I guess they were preparing you as normal just in case they could go ahead. What a shame you didn't get the treatment to clear the infection when it was found earlier, I expect the staff on duty yesterday were just as frustrated with whoever missed that first diagnosis.
ReplyDeleteOh no, how disappointing. Here's hoping whatever meds they have given you do the job quickly x
ReplyDeleteI am do sorry to read of your situation. I think it it takes so much emotional energy to get ready for an op. I hope everything sorts itself out really soon.
ReplyDeletePoor you. Not just a waste of money for them but also a waste of time and money for you. Let's hope the next try is successful.
ReplyDeleteLove from Mum
