I have been been reading a blog which was telling us about an elderly man falling in his house.A neighbour managed to get in and phoned for an ambulance.He waited six hours!!!!
This is just not good enough.If things are that bad bring in the army,pay carers more.
Would you want the job that they do?I dread getting ill.
I had an appointment to see an oncologist. It took 2 hours to get into one of the exam rooms. It took a total of 4 1/2 hours to finally wrap up the appointment because the oncologist was dealing with other patients.

There are so many things wrong with healthcare and so much of it is avoidable. Fire departments have paramedics and will come (here at least) to falls. People call ambulances in the mistaken believe that they will be seen at hospitals faster. Not true, you are still triaged .
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the UK system of using ambulances to transport people to hospitals. Here, you find your own way for appointments. Scrounge a ride from friends/family, take a bus or a taxi. Today I had a patient who drove for 8 hours to get to his appointment and has to spend the night in a hote before he heads home in -25 weather. The government will reimburse part of his costs. There is no hospital where he lives that can provide the services he needs.
The Armed Forces have some good, no great medical staff. I worked alongside them during the height of Covid.
Nursing home staff are overworked and understaffed. They are abused by their patients and their families. I've know staff who were assaulted and seriously injured by people whose families state their elder would never do that! Families? Verbally abuse care staff, they forget that the aide may be responsible for getting upto 8 people who have dementia and multiple physical impairments washed, dressed, fed and toiletted, all day and night. They don't have one on one care and gawd help you if Dad isn't shaved by 0800.
I've been in healthcare for 25 years and people have become truly horrible in the last five years. Nothing we do is good enough, fast enough. We're overpaid and whiners.
